Perhaps one of the reasons America's money is becoming increasingly worthless is because some idiotic studio head gave this movie the green light and a budget of $49 million. There's better things that money could have been spent on besides Jet Li's The One.
Jet Li stars as many different one dimensional characters. The premise of the movie is that there are many different dimensions (I think the movie settles on 125) and they all are nearly identical except in some Jet Li is a criminal and others he is a police officer.
It seems that if one of you die in one dimension then all the other yous gain their strength. One Jet Li has killed 123 other Jet Lis so far and he's coming for the last one so he can become a god.
This is all set to the backdrop of the early 2000s alternative metal hits (Papa Roach, Disturbed, Drowning Pool). The soundtrack may be the worst part, but the special effects are a close second.
On a positive note, some of the fight scenes are pretty decent. Of course there is a showdown between Jet Li and Jet Li, but what martial artist hasn't fought themselves, right? None have fought themselves under a shower of sparks! The gun battles early in the movie are also pretty stupid.
Overall, I would say that there's a reason Jet Li doesn't pick up motorcycles and hit people with them in any of his other movies.
3.5/10
