Peter Falk stars as a Lou Peckinpaugh, a hard drinking, womanizing detective. He is assigned to a highly confusing case that blends the plots of Casablanca and The Maltese Falcon.
This movie is somewhat like a mixture of Airplane and a screwy Woody Allen movie (like Bananas). The jokes come at a rapid pace, but not at such a lightning pace as Airplane. Still, I found it hilarious.
I love the Maltese Falcon, but I've never seen Casablanca (but I will, I promise), so some jokes probably went over my head. Regardless, this is a good comedy in the vein of the other great Simon movie Murder by Death (one of my all time favorites). The entire cast is great and full of attractive women and Falk is always excellent; I love seeing him in comedies. He makes the silly jokes work in a way that somebody like a Sandler or Jim Carey couldn't.
