Real Genius (1985)

Labels: ,

Directed by Martha Coolidge
Written by Neal Israel and Pat Proft
IMDB

Real Genius is the story of a really smart 15 year old, Mitch, who gets recruited by a prestigious college to help complete a laser project. He is roomed with the old campus stud, Chris Knight. They spend much o their time having a prank war with the jerky Kent.
This is one of my favorite comedies. It has a really tight script and great performances. Obviously the highlight is the final prank that explodes a house with popcorn as Tears for Fears plays. This is the best 80s revenge comedy, even beating out Revenge of the Nerds, which was also penned by Neal Israel. If you haven't seen this and see it.

Rating Scale Explanation

The rating scale is simple. 1 is the worst 10 is the best and 5 is mediocre. 5.5 or greater is a movie that I at least find enjoyable. You could also think of 5 as a zero and 1 as a negative 5. I feel like that sounds even more convoluted.
