Black Swan (2010)
Directed by Darren Aronofsky
Written by Mark Heyman, Andres Heinz & John J. McLaughlin
IMDB
Natalie Portman won an Oscar for her portrayal of the mentally ill ballerina who gets too caught up in her role as the star of Swan Lake. Since this movie is newer, I will refrain from spoiling anything else about the film, other than the basic premise.
Portman is obviously excellent, as she did win an Oscar. The rest of the cast is good, too, but this is Portman's film, as far as acting and screen time goes. Visually, this is Aronofsky's film. I passed on The Fountain and The Wrestler, as I heard bad things about the former and enjoy wrestling to watch a drama film that probably portrays it negatively for the latter. Pi and Requiem for a Dream are both fantastic, but Black Swan sees Aronofsky not relying as much on crazy camera angles and quick cutting.
I suppose that Black Swan is a masterpiece. I have been watching a lot of excellent movies recently, but I think Black Swan was the best. It's going to stay with me for a long time. I'll probably even watch it again some day, which is more than I can say about most films.
10/10
