Directed by Vittorio De Sica, the same man who directed my favorite film, "The Bicycle Thief." This film has a similar theme of hoplessness.
An elderly man is not making enough money to get by on his pension. He cannot afford to pay rent and is several months behind. His landlord is threatening to kick him out if he cannot come up with all of the money before the end of the month.
I did not love this film as much as I love "The Bicycle Thief," but I still loved it. It's hopelessness make me happy for some reason. This is on Netflix Instant Watch right now and is well worth the 90 minutes it takes to watch. Vittorio De Sica is a master filmmaker. I was hesitant to watch another film by him because I was afraid it wouldn't live up to the greatness of "The Bicycle Thief," but this did. I can't wait to watch some more of his films (Netflix has several available for streaming!).
10/10
