First, I have to admit that I do not like country music very much.  I can handle some alt-country and old country & western like Johnny Cash.  This movie is about pop country.  Even the Beau character, who is supposed to be more of a singer/songwriter type of country music, sounds like pure country pop to me.
Gwenyth Paltrow, who is very good here, stars as an alcoholic country star who is trying to make a comeback after a drunken escapade in Dallas several months before.  She brings Beau, a guy she’s been sleeping with, and Chiles, a former beauty queen, on the road opening for her.  They travel around and have trouble, and butt heads with her husband/manager.  Pure melodrama with country songs.
I dislike country music and melodrama, but I did not dislike this movie as much as I expected to.  I don’t even know why I watched it.  I felt compelled to, and I don’t know why.  I don’t feel like it enriched my life in any meaningful way.  I did find Gwenyth Paltrow to be very attractive and she sings well.  Not a good movie, but not flat-out terrible.

Rating Scale Explanation

The rating scale is simple. 1 is the worst 10 is the best and 5 is mediocre. 5.5 or greater is a movie that I at least find enjoyable. You could also think of 5 as a zero and 1 as a negative 5. I feel like that sounds even more convoluted.
