IMDB

Directed by the great Vittorio de Sica (The Bicycle Thieves), this tale tells the story of Giuseppe and Pasquale, two shoeshine boys who aspire to own a horse.  Giuseppe’s brother pushes them into perpetrating a scam on a fortuneteller, which lands the boys in a juvenile prison.  When Pasquale snitches on Giuseppe’s brother, the bond between the boys disintegrates.
An excellent film by one of the greats.  The child actors are superb.  The story is intriguing and gives you a look at something you aren’t often privy to.  The child prison in Italy is frightening; five children are crammed into each small cell.  I’ll probably watch this one again some day.

Rating Scale Explanation

The rating scale is simple. 1 is the worst 10 is the best and 5 is mediocre. 5.5 or greater is a movie that I at least find enjoyable. You could also think of 5 as a zero and 1 as a negative 5. I feel like that sounds even more convoluted.
