Sophie
Scholl and her brother Hans are arrested by the Nazis for passing out
“treasonous” leaflets. They are sent to prison and forced to confess,
then put on trial and put to death.
A
very straight and sobering historical drama. The court scene is
fantastic. Julia Jetsch is fantastic as Sophie Scholl, and usually I
can’t tell the difference between a good and bad performance in a
non-english movie, but I can tell that she was excellent.
The
movie focuses on the confessing, her imprisonment and the trial. These
scenes last a long time and are filled with dialogue. It’s an
interesting movie. I do enjoy these types of historical movies, and I
enjoy rebellion in general (liberal rebellion, at least--fuck those Tea
Party lunatics). This is pretty much a must-see, but could be boring to
some due to the pacing.
8/10
