Bananas is about a guy (Woody Allen) who falls in love with a girl who is very left wing. They start dating, but they inevitably break up. After the break up Woody Allen goes to San Marcos to meet with the dictator. The dictator has his men dress up like the rebels who are trying to overthrow him in an attempt to assassinate Allen to make the US side with him. It backfires and Allen ends up on the rebel side and eventually as the President of the country.
This movie's plot is very loose. It really plays more like Airplane than it does Annie Hall, by which I mean it's basically just a long string of jokes, some of which don't necessarily fit into the movie. This may be the funniest Woody Allen movie I've seen. I will forever remember the scene where he's telling his psychologist his dream about being carried on a crucifix by druids. The druids try to park the cross like a car on the streets of New York, only to have the space stolen from them by other druids carrying a guy on a cross.
