John Candy stars as a writer for a soap opera, who is being undermined and replaced. He is in love with the star of the show. She asks him to take her on a weekend trip because she is having a spat with her lover, an actor on the soap. He gets hit in the head with the trunk of his car when he sees her making out with her lover. He then crashes his car, only to wake up in the town of the soap opera, with the changes he didn't sign off on to keep him on his toes. Using his type writer he can alter what happens to himself and the others.
This is just a silly and fun movie. It's nothing deep or great, but it's entertaining and John Candy really sells some of the jokes. Anybody who has ever seen a soap opera will probably get a laugh out of the satirical moments, and others might find the screwy shit Candy does funny.
This was a childhood favorite of mine because of the screwball nature and John Candy. Who doesn't love John Candy? The guy is way funnier than Martin Short. Almost everybody is funnier than Short.
