Trailer
IMDB
Set during the depression in post-war Italy. Antonio Ricci finally gets a job, but he needs his bicycle, which he pawned. His wife, Maria, pawns her sheets to get the bike. On his first day of work (as a poster paster) his bike gets stolen. He and his son Bruno set out to find his bike otherwise they won't be able to eat.
This movie is all about desperation. Nearly every character in this movie is desperate in one way or another.
This movie is brilliantly directed by Vittorio De Sica. The actors are amazing, and they can portray more emotion without talking than with dialogue.
This is probably the best movie ever made. Fuck you Citizen Kane.

I saw this as a double feature with North in 1994 and I thought they were similar in a lot of ways.
