Overnight is the story of Troy Duffy, the writer and director of The Boondock Saints and a member of the band The Brood. Troy gets a deal with Miramax to make The Boondock Saints, then messes it up by being smug and crass, instead of grateful. He eventually gets to make the movie and his band gets a record deal. Yet he still manages to be a jerk and mess everything up, eventually ending up spending all of his money and unable to get any other work.
This is about as good a look at overnight success changing somebody as you're going to get. Troy Duffy is a giant asshole, and it really comes out with just a little taste of success. I was not a fan of The Boondock Saints in the first place, and after this movie I'm not a fan of the filmmaker either. He treated his friends like garbage and deserves to be in the place he is now. Hopefully he's been humbled.
