Directed by Yimou Zhang
Written by Heng Liu
AKA: The Story of Qiu Ju
IMDB
Qiu Ju's husband is injured because he got mouthy with their village's chief and got kicked in the balls. She wants the chief to apologize, but he's not willing to. He'll pay for the medical bills, but will not lower himself to say he's sorry. She goes through tons of bureaucratic hoops trying to get some justice.
I loved this film. It's beautifully shot, and it looks real. There's not a lot of movies that look gritty and realistic like this one. The story is great and focuses on China's crazy system of filing your claim for review over and over. In a way it's like the Tupac and Tim Roth film Gridlock'd, which is also great. This is definitely a movie that needs to be seen.
