IMDB

Dan McGinty begins as a bum getting paid to vote 37 times in a mayoral election. The mob boss paying him likes the way he handles himself. He puts McGinty in charge of getting protection pay, which he does very well. Soon the mob boss is pushing McGinty into politics. McGinty has to get married, so he marries Catherine, who is his assistant or something of that sort. When McGinty becomes Governor, Catherine pushes him to do what's right instead of what he's told to do, much to the mob boss' chagrin.
Preston Sturges is a great director and I'm glad every time I get to watch one of his films. The Great McGinty is great, one IMDB review even went as far as to say it's on par with Citizen Kane and Casablanca. I'm not willing to go that far, but it is a damn good film. The other Sturges films I've seen were more of the screwball comedy variety. This movie was humorous, but it was also politically charged and had a message. That message: politics are corrupt. Not exactly controversial, but it makes for a good film.

Rating Scale Explanation

The rating scale is simple. 1 is the worst 10 is the best and 5 is mediocre. 5.5 or greater is a movie that I at least find enjoyable. You could also think of 5 as a zero and 1 as a negative 5. I feel like that sounds even more convoluted.
