IMDB

A young boy, Max, runs away from home after biting his mom and ends up on an island with a bunch of large monsters. When they threaten to eat him, he tells them that he's a king. They quickly proclaim him their king. He decides they are going to make a huge fort, which everybody is excited about. The monsters go through some emotional times that Max tries to help out the best he can.
The movie itself looks amazing. Spike Jonze is a fantastic director and there are some really amazing shots in this film. It's not as crazy as Being John Malkovic or Adaptation, but it is as fun and slick looking. I also love the soundtrack done by Karen O. of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
This is a film that adults and children can both enjoy. The emotions of the monsters are pretty complex and the situations their conflicts are pretty human (for lack of a better word or phrase). This movie is both funny and touching. A true classic family film.

Rating Scale Explanation

The rating scale is simple. 1 is the worst 10 is the best and 5 is mediocre. 5.5 or greater is a movie that I at least find enjoyable. You could also think of 5 as a zero and 1 as a negative 5. I feel like that sounds even more convoluted.
