Machete (2010)
Directed by Ethan Maniquis and Robert Rodriguez
Written by Robert Rodriguez and Álvaro Rodríguez
IMDB
Robert Rodriguez's fake trailer has become a feature film. This is a straight-faced homage to exploitation action movies like Shaft coupled with the crazy stylized violence of John Woo films. Machete is an ex-federali and has come to America illegally, where he does handyman work. He gets picked up by the aid of a senator and is hired to shoot the senator. Instead, this turns out to be a double cross set up in order to win the anti-immigration senator some support. Machete goes on the lam and finds out how deep this plot goes (all the way to Steven Seagal!).
I loved this flick. It was mindless, but extremely fun. The violence is off the wall and the story is pure exploitation zaniness. The cast is so weird, but all great. Plus, if you wanted to see a film featuring a topless Lindsay Lohan, this is your opportunity (although definitely not your last opportunity).
9/10
