A cop suspects a hipster couple for a string of murders that are being perpetrated by the living dead. As they defend themselves from zombies, the sergeant is on their trail.
This movie is not for everybody. Sure, there is some gore and it can get fairly gross at times, but that is not the reason. This movie is decidedly slow-paced and some will not enjoy it. Yet, I loved it. It is set at the start of a possible zombie apocalypse, which means there are not too many zombies yet. The dead arise when they are irradiated by a large anti-pest radiation machine (it looks like a tractor). It works on the most basic nervous systems, which somehow the dead have.
This movie reminds me of From Dusk Til Dawn. The first half of that film has essentially no bearing on the rest of it. This sort of does, but the first half of the film builds up very little, except for tension. And that's fine.
If I were to make a zombie movie, it would not be like this one. I would place the characters in some sort of fortress they have to defend and have them kill thousands of zombies with insane weapons. Still, the slower-pace did work in this film, as did the mostly open areas in which they fought zombies. Good directing/writing from Jorge Grau.
8/10
