Throne of Blood (1957)

Labels: ,
Directed by Akira Kurosawa
Written by Hideo Oguni, Shinobu Hashimoto, Ryûzô Kikushima and Akira Kurosawa
IMDB

A reimagining of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” in medieval Japan.  Washizu and Miki come upon a spirit in the forest who tells them a prophecy--Washizu will become the great lord and Miki’s son will be his successor.  Washizu’s wife eggs him on to fulfill the prophecy by bloodshed.
Obviously, this is a good movie.  The climax is great.  Toshihiro Mifune is excellent, as always.  Akira Kurosawa is one of the greatest, if not the greatest, directors of all time, so it is hard to go wrong with any of his films.  At the very least they will look amazing.

Rating Scale Explanation

The rating scale is simple. 1 is the worst 10 is the best and 5 is mediocre. 5.5 or greater is a movie that I at least find enjoyable. You could also think of 5 as a zero and 1 as a negative 5. I feel like that sounds even more convoluted.
