Castle in the Sky (1986)
Directed by Hayao Miyazaki
Written by Hayao Miyazaki
IMDB
A young girl, aided by a magic crystal, floats down from the sky after falling out of an airship and is discovered by a boy. They set out on an adventure to find a lost city in the sky while pirates and the military chase them.
This is, I believe, the final Miyazaki movie I have to watch before the sequel of Porco Rosso is released. This one has some similar themes as other Miyazaki movies: castles (Howl's Moving Castle), takes place mostly in the sky (Porco Rosso, Naussica and the Valley of Wind) and, of course, crazy characters. There is also a very large amount of fantasy, some of which made it hard for me to get a grasp on what was going on at all times.
Overall, the two hours of this movie were a little much, but it was enjoyable. The robots were pretty cool. It looked pretty good, although not as good as more recent Miyazaki films. I'd say it's worth a watch. Kids would probably be into it.
