Tokyo Drifter (1966)
Directed by Seijun Suzuki
Written by Kôhan Kawauchi
IMDB
Tetsuo and his Yakuza boss, Kurata, have gone straight. A rival gang tries to con Kurata out of his building and $8 million, but Kurata's secretary ends up murdered. Tetsuo walks in and murders the secretary's boyfriend, a member of the rival gang, which makes it look like suicide. Tetsuo decides to take the rap for the murder of the secretary for his boss and becomes a drifter.
Not a bad little movie. The shootout at the climax is pretty excellent. There's also a weird brawl in an old west saloon. A fun soundtrack with jazzy 60s rock and stylish directing make this a very watchable film. I enjoy the films of Seijun Suzuki, especially Youth of the Beast and Branded to Kill. This was not as good as either of those, but it was still enjoyable.
