No Holds Barred is the story of a Hulk Hogan-esque wrestler, Rip (played by Hulk Hogan). Rip has a huge Q-rating, which is why World Television Network executive Mr. Brell is desperate to woo him away from the WWF. Rip declines his offer. On his way home Rip is kidnapped and taken to a warehouse where he beats all of his kidnappers up and makes his driver shit himself.
Mr. Brell and his two assistants go to a rough bar that features shoot pro wrestling that looks even faker than worked wrestling. He likes what he sees and decides to make it a tv show.
Meanwhile, Rip gets a new accountant or something. It's a hot woman and naturally they are in love. What we don't yet know is that she is working for Mr. Brell. Really it doesn't matter because she quickly quits and he has her kidnapped.
The first tough man contest ends with Zeus destroying the competition. He is made the world champion and he and Brell are making idle challenges to Rip. Zeus even goes as far as crippling Rip's brother to get him to fight. Mr. Brell has Rip's girlfriend kidnapped to assure Zeus stay champion.
Zeus and Rip have an epic (really it's pretty horrible) showdown. Obviously everything turns out great because it's a movie.
Every scene is filled with smog. I don't know if it was my copy of it or not, but I remember seeing this flick in the theater when I was a kid and my memories suggest that the smog is on purpose. This movie is absolutely awful and if you're not a fan of wrestling is probably unwatchable. I am a fan of wrestling, so I was entertained, but I started internetting half way through.
