Beautiful Dreamer: Brian Wilson and the Story of 'Smile' (2004)

Labels: ,

Directed by David Leaf
IMDB

Brian Wilson (of Beach Boys fame) spent 30 years working on an album called 'Smile.' This is a documentary, featuring some big interviews, about the process and why it took him so long to finish the album.
There's not much to say about it, other than it presents the story pretty well. The only problem I had with it was that they skipped most of him being crazy. He had a nervous breakdown, then all of a sudden it's 20 or so years later and he's got a new wife and is playing a 'Smile' song at a party. With the help of his wife and friends he is convinced to finish 'Smile,' which is a superb album.
If you're a fan of Wilson then there's no reason not to see this. I am and I enjoyed it.

Rating Scale Explanation

The rating scale is simple. 1 is the worst 10 is the best and 5 is mediocre. 5.5 or greater is a movie that I at least find enjoyable. You could also think of 5 as a zero and 1 as a negative 5. I feel like that sounds even more convoluted.
