IMDB

Hard-boiled is the story of super cop, Yuen. I'm a little sick and out of it, so I had a hard time reading all of the subtitles. There were quite a few plot twists that kind of confused me, but the story pretty much takes a backseat to the glorious violence that is on display throughout this film.
This movie has been built up pretty big and it actually exceeded my expectations. I am not a very big fan of Jon Woo, but I don't necessarily hate him, especially now. This movie is a masterpiece of ultra-violence. The final gunfight probably lasts nearly a half hour and for some of it Chow Yun Fat is holding a baby.
As far as the plot goes (if it matters to you) it's a pretty basic police/undercover police against gangsters who are into gun smuggling. That's all you really need to know. The violence is the true star of this film, and is a heavy influence in many action movies made afterward.

Rating Scale Explanation

The rating scale is simple. 1 is the worst 10 is the best and 5 is mediocre. 5.5 or greater is a movie that I at least find enjoyable. You could also think of 5 as a zero and 1 as a negative 5. I feel like that sounds even more convoluted.
