The Invention of Lying (2009)
Directed by Ricky Gervais and Matthew Robinson
Written by Ricky Gervais and Matthew Robinson
IMDB
Ricky Gervais plays a screenwriter in a world without lying. The movies are people reading from history books, and he's assigned the 1300s, which are too depressing to make a profitable film. He gets fired. He is also unlucky in love. Then one day he invents lying when trying to take some money out of a bank. Soon his luck starts turning around in a pretty predictable sort of way.
I am a fan of Ricky Gervais and found this film pretty funny. It is definitely his style of humor, the film even focuses in on religion in a very negative way. You might be thinking this movie is a romantic comedy, but it just barely is. The love story is kept to a bare minimum and is mostly played for laughs. If you like Gervais beyond The Office then you will probably like this.
