King
George VI has a severe stammer and seeks the help of a speech therapist
to overcome his impediment. When he is suddenly made king, during the
rise of Hitler, he must make a very important speech to his people in
the hopes of filling them with hope.
This
won Best Picture at the 2011 Academy Awards. Whether it is a better
film than “Winter’s Bone,” “Black Swan,” or even “Toy Story 3” is a
perhaps a point of contention. Regardless of that debate, this is a
fine film and period piece. The performances, especially that of Colin
Firth (who rightfully won the Best Actor Oscar), are excellent. A very
good and must-see film.
